Why we are needed

In today’s competitive labour market, employers increasingly need employees who have excellent communication skills, who can take responsibility for their own work and who are flexible enough to move around the company when needed.    As jobs for young people become more and more limited, the selection criteria will increasingly favour those with qualifications over those without.

It’s essential then, that throughout school young people are equipped with all the key transferrable skills that employers need along with an understanding of why they are needed and the qualifications that back up their assertions in their CVs.

Young People from disadvantaged backgrounds often find developing these skills more difficult because they often live in families where:

  • Low levels of educational attainment are the norm;
  • There is little ambition or understanding of the need or ability to change Low levels of self esteem and aspirations; and,
  • Unemployment is inter-generational and ambition is therefore seen as futile.

In these environments it is difficult for young people to find a purpose for learning and this leads all too often to poor standards of behaviour that impede learning still further.  Right Track are committed to making a real and sustainable difference to these young people.
